PAUL RUDOLF PRECEDENT STUDY

Location: Siesta Key, Florida USA
Type: Residential

The building selected for this precedent study was a summer cottage located along the intercoastal waterway in Siesta Key, Florida designed by Paul Rudolph. Unfortunately, the house was never built and there were limited drawings available, which made it challenging to provide an accurate representation. Rudolph’s design included several features intended to maximize occupant flexibility and comfort. The house features an open floor plan with a clear separation between public and private spaces. The structure is elevated above the waterway in the event of flooding and to help cool the house during the summer months. The design includes several operable louvers for shading and privacy. Operable doors and windows along the north/south facades allow for simple passive ventilation.
